Can I request an apartment or roommate?

Yes! You can search for roommates using Hornet Housing. Information on roommate matching through Hornet Housing will be distributed via email before the room selection period. Please note that your options are based on availability and we cannot guarantee that you will be assigned with your preferred roommate. If no selection is made during Room Selection, then Hornet Commons will auto-assign based on the roommate profiles. After the completion of Room Selection week, Hornet Commons will continue to accept roommate requests. These requests will be taken into consideration but are not guaranteed. We do our best to satisfy all of our roommate requests.

 

Can I pay my bill with a credit card? Is there an extra charge?

Absolutely! You can check your balance; pay your rent via our online system with VISA, MasterCard, Discover Card or E-Check. There is a convenience fee for using a credit cards when making a payment. However, there is no additional charge if you pay through your bank account.

Can I pick my bedroom?

Bedroom placement will be made based on availability. Hornet Commons will work to accommodate as many roommate requests as possible, and place residents according to their room style preference. If no selection is made during Room Selection, then Hornet Commons will auto-assign based on the roommate profiles.

Can I use my financial aid to pay for my rent?

Yes, you may use financial aid to pay rent. However, financial aid funds will be distrusted to our residents directly and not Hornet Commons. Residents will need to make their payment to Hornet Commons once their financial aid is provided. Please note that financial aid usually is disbursed after the first payment is due so you will need to make a payment and then reimburse yourself when you receive your aid.

When is my first payment due?

The first payment is due on the 15th of the month prior to your move-in month. For example, if your lease is signed with an August 2023 move-in date, then payment will be due on July 15th. Also, the next payment due is due on the first of the following month.

When can I move in?

Residents can move-in to Hornet Commons according to their lease start date.

Do I need a guarantor?

No. However, we encourage all residents to have a guarantor. If an approved guarantor cannot be obtained, we will accept a security deposit of one (1) rent installment. The security deposit does not go towards any future rent payment.

What types of leases are available?

Hornet Commons has both academic (9 month) and full year (12 month) leases available.

Do you allow pets?

We love pets at Hornet Commons! We charge a $300 non-refundable pet deposit fee and $30 monthly pet rent. No more than one animal is permitted in a bedroom and no more than two animals are permitted in an apartment unless approved by Hornet Commons Management. Please contact the Leasing Office for restrictions or other questions.

 


Is parking included?

Parking is separate. The cost is between $52 - $75 per space and there are a limited number of spaces. Please call the leasing office for more information.

What utilities are included in my monthly installment?

ALL utilities are included with the price of rent. Therefore, trash, sewage, water, gas, cable, electricity and internet will all be included with rent.

Will you send me a bill for each installment?

We do not send any invoices, but for your convenience, you can use our online resident portal to check your balance at any time. The front page of your lease dictates exactly when each payment is due.

Can I sublet my room?

We unfortunately do not allow subletting; however, we do allow resident Rreplacements. Please contact the leasing office to learn more about this process and how to complete it accurately.

Can additional furniture be brought into the apartment?

You are welcome to bring additional furniture with you, but don't forget that we fully furnish all of our apartments. Please note that we do not allow furniture to be removed from the apartment.

Can I request different roommates?

We want you to be comfortable here, and we will do everything we can to accommodate your roommate requests. We also offer roommate matching based on a roommate matching questionnaire that you will fill out during our application.

What is a "renewal?

Are you loving it here and can't imagine leaving at the end of your lease? By signing a renewal, you get to extend your stay at our community!

If I renew, will my guarantor have to sign again?

Yes, your guarantor will have to sign again for your new lease.

If I renew, do I have to move out then move back in?

We offer a few renewal terms. Please call the leasing office to inquire about which renewal term will best accommodate your needs.

I'm graduating in December, can I still renew?

Contact the office for details on the options available to you.

I just moved in, is it too early to renew?

Renewing now will provide the most benefit to you. By signing early, you will secure your space for next year and take advantage of the best pricing available.

How do I renew?

We know how busy you are, so we have made the process as quick and easy as possible. Renewing is as easy as 1, 2, 3! Just follow these steps: 1. Open your renewal email from us 2. Review the terms, and click "Accept" 3. Follow the prompts to sign the new lease agreement It's that easy!

When do I start paying the new rent amount?

The first installment for your renewal lease will be due Aug 1st, 2022.
